Competence Starts with Confidence

Ever since I was in Honors English in high school back in the seventies (yes, I am a "well seasoned" teacher versus "an old teacher"), I knew that I wanted to dedicate my college years to taking every writing and literature class I could get my hands on. Once my composition was chosen as the "model essay" in my English Comp 101 class at Adelphi University, and was read by students for many years after I graduated, I knew that I meant to be a teacher and share my love for literature, writing, and "coloring outside the lines," inspiring students to be reflective, thoughtful and creative readers, writers, thinkers, and speakers. English Language Arts Teacher

I believe that real learning takes place when students are actively engaged in the material. Finding the right materials to teach with will often inspire intrinsic motivation.
I have currently spent over 350 hours in a variety of school settings. From private school to public, first grade to twelfth, I have seen it all. The majority of my experience has taken place in a suburban middle school, however I have also spent a reasonable ammount of time working with inner city high school students. I double majored in college to recieve a bachelors degree in literature and writing, and spent a full year interning at a student run newspaper as a journalist and copy editor. I have tutored middle school students with a variety of learning disabilities, as well as SAT prep for high school students. I am currently registered for a series of NYS tests to earn my certification to teach.
