I like to discover what my students already know about the topic and to expose any misconceptions. Brainstorming activities work well for me. I like to help define the topic in common terms, not the classic dictionary method. I use presentation, discussion, videos and hands on activities. Most of what I do is inquiry based.

I started out working as a Head Start teacher's assistant and the following year I was promoted to Head Start teacher and manager. I have also worked as a 1:1 instructional assistant with a high needs student. Currently I worked in a behavior school as an instructional assistant, and I have stepped in to plan curriculum and teach all the classes because the teacher has been on paid leave this year. I was an outstanding high school athlete and was awarded an athletic scholarship to play basketball and more importantly get an education. I earned a bachelors degree in Biology and went back and earned a degree in Secondary Education. I have successfully taught and coached at all levels for 20 years. I gained the overall experiences of dealing with students in and out of the classroom. I earned a masters of Science degree and tutored math and science professionally at the collegiate level. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching high schoolers for a variety of reasons. Mostly because of how honest I can be with them. I enjoy teaching hands-on, real life application of the sciences in a way that students can understand the concept as well as the usefulness to them out in the real world. My goal is not to be the student's friend or even their favorite teacher, but to be fair and prepare them for what life might throw at them outside of the classroom. I want them to have the tools and discipline to succeed in the real world.
I currently teach high school science. In the past four years I have taught classes such as physical science (an introductory course to physics and chemistry), biology and anatomy & physiology. I currently have a BS in Animal Science and a Master's of Art and Teaching in General Science. I also hold certification to teach Biology in the state of New Hampshire.
