A Little Bit About Me...

My formal teaching experience consists of weekly classes and workshops at Artful Journey, and over three years at ArtWorks Fine Art Studio. While there I taught traditional drawing and painting with a focus on teaching students to draw realistically. I guided all ages through color theory, design, drawing, painting, and printmaking. I also helped manage our studios, set up new curriculum for our summer workshops and developed and created working examples. I also held a teaching assistantship at Cranbrook, which consisted of mentoring my fellow graduate students, managing our facilities, and assisting our artists in residence.

I am a true supporter of standards based education. It clarifies what the students need to know and be able to do. It makes the teacher's job easier when designing lesson plans, and it affords families and communities the kind of accountability they need to monitor their students progress. Consequently, I begin each unit with the end in mind. I then develop a set of benchmarks that will lead the students toward that objective. Each day, my students know what they must accomplish in order to move on. As their guide, I provide the materials and demonstrate their use. A Little Bit About Me...

I have been in the education field for over 20 years. In 1995 I built my own art studio working with adults and children. I worked with brain-injured, autistic, ADD, ADHD, dyslexic, gifted, as well as reg. ed. students. I returned to complete my teaching degree in 2001, graduating from Colorado Christian University in Lakewood, CO in 2005. I have earned an additional 60 credit hours in drawing, painting, watercolors and sculpture. I have been a substitute teacher for Jeffco, Adams 12, and catholic schools for the past 8 years. I have been tutoring children while in college and since. I tutored children as part of the No Child Left Behind Act in the fields of reading, English, math, history, and science. Since graduating college, as performing as a case manager in mental health and for homeless families, I have tutored children in the same fields. I have also tutored college level students in the fields of statistics, writing, and psychology.
