I follow the method of G. Polya in his classic work "How to Solve It". By asking the right questions, one can help the student define his problem, form a plan for the solution, carry out the plan, and examine the result. I also try to work as many difficult problems from the student's text as time permits, in order to show that all problems have a solution, and the student can build confidence in attacking any problem. I try to present the material in as many ways as needed, so that I can match the subject to the student's style of learning.

What strikes me most as I look back at my education is how much of an impact a teacher can have when they make their subject relevant to their students. When I am teaching I try to find out what motivates each student as a person, in addition to what is motivating them to take the class. Studies show that people who are used to success are more likely to try again and again when confronted with a challenge. My goal is to build a success-driven environment where the student feels like he/she can do anything.
