I believe that each student is different, and that the best teaching method differs with each student. Some students respond better to being challenged while others will require smaller steps. The goals of the students also vary, some needing only to pass while others need a solid foundation in anticipation of further study. I believe I can tailor instruction to the students' needs. I graduated from the United States Air Force Academy with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. Math classes included Calculus I, II, and III, Differential Equations and Matrices, and Engineering Math. My MS in Engineering Management included several classes in Statistics and Probabilities. I tutored middle school students 12 hours per week for two years at Ramstein Middle School, Ramstein Air Base, Germany.

I bring a lot of energy to the classroom and ensure that I am over-prepared for each lesson. I enjoy involving every student in a classroom setting and encourage an active, open learning environment. I also believe it is a very valuable experience to be able to work with students one-on-one. I like to work with each student to figure out his or her individual learning style and needs. Though it may not be applicable for this position, I try to plan group activities when possible, so that students can learn from one another and help each other work through problems. Before deciding to return to graduate school in 2006, my relevant professional experience included teaching LSAT courses through Kaplan in the Washington, DC area during 2005. I have been an "instructor"-teacher for over 15 years. I teach math, economics, finance, business, and management for several colleges. I have been a Boy Scoutmaster and merit bade counselor and have worked with youth for over 15 years. I have always been given very high marks as an instructor with many comments on my positive energy and help for students. I have an applied mathematics minor so I would be able to teach algebra, geometry, trig, and introductory calculus. I am a question-answer type of teacher. I like to demonstrate, have them do, answer questions, clear up ambiguities, and then test or at least check to insure learning and understanding. I have a style of quiet, but firm expectations. I have a great amount of patience. I will do best with high school and college age students, and on occasion, with more mature middle school students.

Because all student learn at different levels I believe in order to be a good Math tutor you must show patients with the students you are working with. With my background in math I feel very comfortable working with kids of all skill levels and helping them reach there full potential. As a student at Western State College in Gunnison, CO I have been tutoring students and fellow athletes in Math for the past year. I have enjoyed the work I have done so far in this area and was looking to further my experience in this field throughout the Gunnison area. I expect to graduate with my BA in 2011.
