I will graduate from the College of Saint John’s University this spring with a major in English Education. Classes I have taken at CSB/SJU include extensive English and Education courses and a continuation of Spanish education. I worked as a paid English tutor during my 4-year college career through Upward Bound Tutoring program. I fell in love with helping middle school and high school aged youth in a small group and one on one setting. I find my favorite moments of education to be in a one-on-one or small group setting. I've been a musician for 30 years, recording, performing, touring, producing and composing. The City Pages chose me as it's 'Jazz Musician of The Year' in 2004 and I have been awarded McKnight and Jerome fellowships. I did not start playing the saxophone (my main instrument) until my 21st birthday. I then practiced a lot and have a very clear idea of how to learn and teach. I love teaching and working with anyone who wants to learn to play and instrument or any aspect of music especially kids. While helping them learn it is important to let then have fun, challenge them just enough for them to make consistent progress and encourage them to join ensembles or even start a band on their own.
