My comments on tutoring Political Science : I have vast knowledge of the political system.

I try to engage my student, to tease the learning out of him or her. I have learned to explain, to give the information then to step back, allowing my student to think through to the conclusion. This involves silence sometimes, and the student talking more while I talk less, something not so easy for a teacher of Italian descent. Experiences has shown, however, that it often works.

As a UB graduate, I was very driven to learn the most I could in the areas of humanities and social sciences. I have earned two bachelor degrees, BA in History and BA in Political Science. With history, I wrote many essays that required me to decipher large amounts of kryptic writing aging back from thousands of millenia ago to present day. A Little Bit About Me...

Through my teaching experience, I have learned the importance of the relationship between the community and maintaining a positive classroom environment. As a student teacher I have had experience keeping parents involved with classroom activities and I believe that parental involvement is an important factor in creating effective teaching and learning for all students. Currently I am student teaching at Buffalo Public School #11, Poplar Street Academy. I lead small groups in the afternoon and use Harcourt Intervention to provide enrichment for struggling readers. I have been successful in pulling two of the five students up to benchmark level.
I also developed a positive behavior management system that teaches students responsibility and accountability. My system has reinforced my philosophy of teaching; students learn and work better when a positive environment surrounds them.
