I have 27 years of art teaching experience K through 12, special education, artistic learning, talented and gifted, and adult education. I am able to tutor and teach all areas of art and art history. I use a variety of teaching styles while instructing students. Alternating between styles helps to keep minds engaged and participation at a maximum. When covering content I use many examples that relate to real life, that way students can relate it to something they have experienced or seen. I also like performing small-scale experiments and labs. I will use power point presentations as well as the overhead for drawings, notes, and discussion. There are many websites that I make use of, the websites that I use are usually hands on and require students to think and solve problems on their own.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a teacher, I expose students to a variety of artists and their techniques. My students are taught the fundamentals of art first, mastering one skill at a time. I am very interactive with my students. We discuss new skills, students have visual examples, and I also demonstrate every technique. I feel that once students have knowledge of the fundamentals, they need to feel free to experiment and adapt different styles to suit their personal taste. Teaching another individual and seeing that "light bulb" when they finally understand a concept they have been struggling with is a great joy to me! I believe strongly about incorporating creativity into teaching and also teaching to every style of learning. This includes auditory, visual, and kinesthetic ways of teaching so that every individual will be able to learn in a way that best suits their personal learning style. I believe that everyone is capable of learning. When a concept is not grasped, I believe that sometimes it is because the concept is not being taught in a way that the student understands it.
