Microsoft Excel is one of my top subjects! I have been training students in the Microsoft Office applications since they were released almost thirty years ago. I've developed and marketed training materials nationwide, and am the author of Excel Basic Training, Excel VBA Basic Training, and Word Basic Training.

From 1990 to 2000, I was an international Excel, Word, and Access trainer and lecturer for Dunn & Bradstreet Business Education Services. During this period, I trained over 25,000 people in 48 states. My company was allied with WORLD BOOK ENCYCLOPEDIA as the World Book Education Technology Training Group, a program that trained educators nationwide. Following my graduation from the University of Connecticut I pursued a career in the insurance industry but have also spent time working as a youth group leader and worked as a part-time tutor for several years. While living in Connecticut I tutored homebound high school age children who were either out on medical leave or expelled for disciplinary purposes. I am very good at math, so in college I got into the tutoring program for inner city elementary students and the student I tutored showed remarkable improvement in her math grades as a result. Many years later I was accepted into the Alternate Route to Certification II program and received my Math 7-12 teaching certificate in May 2003.
Working with middle school students is an adventure. The students all have different ways of learning, so blackboard work is a great way for them to visualize, and I also use 3 dimensional models when they are appropriate. My experience showed me that the students that wanted to learn would stay after school to get more individualized attention, which I was always available to give them. I first began tutoring under the direction of Nancy Donohue-Berthiaume at Quinsigamond College. I turored in Introductory Accounting, basic and college level mathematics. In my Sophmore symester, I was presented with a challenge. A young man who was both Dislexic, and Mathlexic was failing basic mathematics. In less then 1/2 hour, I was able to help him go from failing grades to straight A's. Later, I tutored fellow students in Pre-Calculus while taking the course myself. I ended up with a 4.0 GPA in that class. I was more of an instructor than a teacher. I was a day camp counselor at Solway House parent/child resort in Saugerties N.Y. I instructed kids how to swim, dive, play various sports and gave dancing lessons to the guests. As a high school student I tutored 7th and 8th graders in an after school community center. I was one of a few staff at the University of Connecticut to instruct graduates and staff in the use of the various electronic facilites available to them.
