I have served as a Writing Tutor with UVU for five years now, tutoring in all genres. In April I will graduate with my BS in English and Creative Writing. I worked as a tutor of writing at Austin Community College in TX from 1/07-12/07. Currently I serve as a TA for an Intro to Creative Writing class at UVU in which I grade half of student work and teach once a month. I was accepted to the University of Houston's MFA program this fall, where I will also teach undergraduate composition. I served as Editor-in-Chief of UVU's literary magazine entitle, Touchstones. I have taught and tutored K-12 subjects English, Basic Math, History, and Science for three years as an Educational Specialist helping home school students. For the past three years I have taught in Utah Elementary schools in the primary grades. My favorite job of all time was teaching ESL in a middle school. I love education and helping students learn to read, write and love math.
I enjoy working with children and helping them discover their individual learning style. I believe all children can learn but that we each have our individual strengths. A Little Bit About Me...

As a former English major and editing minor at Brigham Young University I helped many students write and edit research and English papers. Along the way I also had the opportunity to edit an engineering Master's thesis. I have tutored in paper writing in various subjects as well as specifically tutoring in creative writing. I have worked with and on over thirty papers. I work very well one-on-one with students and am able to explain and teach what is necessary for better papers for the present and for the future. All of my students have received A grades on their papers.
I am able to help students build their papers from the bottom up and go through completed papers and give assistance. I feel that I am able to teach and explain the elements that are required in a paper so that students may write better papers in the future. I greatly enjoy the one-on-one experience.

I have a daughter that is hearing impaired and has a langauge processing disorder. I also have a teenage son that is extremely bright, but a little lazy at school work. Teaching and watching them learn has shown me all children can learn, but they do it in different ways and at different speeds. I am a kind tutor, but diligent in making sure all the work gets done and we are moving forward as quickly as the child can. I want them to meet or surpass grade level and feel good about themselves and the work they are doing.
As a college tutor I worked with ESL students in writing. My English and MLIS degrees help with reading developement, research, literature selection, and writing quality. I have also home schooled my elementary age children in all academic subjects. Currently, I am volunteering at a local elementary school in the STAR program tutoring young children in reading.
