My educational and professional background (B.A., Masters, Doctorate of Law) supports my experience in teaching both young students and adults, tutoring at high schools and colleges, and private in-home instruction. Teaching English, History, Composition, Public Speaking, and Government and Politics, provided the opportunities to also use skills acquired practicing law. As a public school teacher, law school tutor, and retired attorney, it is vital that my experience and communication expertise result in enthusiastic and successful learning.
In working with any student, the key is to be genuine and enthusiastic. A large part of successful communication is a sense of humor (!) and a willingness to work hard. I love teaching all ages, but have experience working with college freshman. I believe that these students are at an age where they need to realize their dreams and need help to gain confidence within themselves. My strong point is within Math, but also comprehension. Written words and puzzles are not always easily understood. Some people need facts to help them learn or examples.
I have worked with college students in the past, working with comprehensive learning and mathematics. I was a tutor for the School of Business and Economics in Elizabeth City where I earned by BS in Business in 2003. I tutored beginning through Intermediate accounting, Principles of Marketing and other business subjects from 2000-2003. I was a formal tutor for one year and a student tutor for 2 years. I currently tutor family members, friends and church members in all basic elementary through college subjects. (ex. Algebra, Physics, Chemistry, Accounting, Statistics,English etc. ) Basically, if you have a book or instructions we can get a passing grade out of the class. I feel comfortable and I am qualified to tutor through Spanish II.
