My first visit is just an assessment of where the student began to get lost regardless of the age or level. More often that not, they have to memorize their fractions to decimal to percentage conversion from 1/2 to 1/12. Given this underlying knowledge allows me to focus on the subject at hand. I usually recommend purchasing a Spark Notes or something similar for the subject as a reference guide. I use examples from the book to review, and assist in homework. Math has always been an achievement of mine. I went to school and started out for an engineering degree, completing all the math including hard calculus. When I got to the university level I thought a business degree would be better as it is used in all types of businesses. So on top of taking hard calc, I took business calc, accounting, finance, and economics classes which all focus on math. I have no real teaching style as I have never really taught anyone. I have always helped friends out while we were in school together and I would just have to figure out at what level of knowledge they were having a hard time understanding and start to help them understand what was going on from that point on.
