I love teaching and history. I believe that anybody can learn anything. I think if someone has not learned something it is because someone has not taught it to them at all or they have not been taught in the right way. I believe anyone can reach a high education level if they are nurtured by educators who believe in them and are patient.
At the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga I received an excellent education where I got my BA in History with a minor in Sociology. There I was taught by excellent professors who instilled in me passions for history, sociology, and intellectual discussion. I also wrote many papers which have given me good grammatical skills. I also gave many speeches and took part in many discussions which have given me good speaking skills. I want to apply this education and experience by working as a tutor for you.

College students are difficult to work with because they think they know it all. This was a blessing in disguise because it taught me not only to learn different ways to tutor a student, but also to figure out through body language and little signals as to whether or not they were actually comprehending the information. Teaching is not just giving information and hoping they retain it. My teaching style consists of teaching, asking questions to ensure they know or understand the material, and exercising hands-on work and examples to ensure the student can apply what they have learned.

I have two English-related degrees from the University of Miami, Print Journalism and Creative Writing (Poetry Focus). Since graduating in 2005, I have worked as a teacher in South Korea, Miami Beach, FL, and here in the greater Pensacola area. A Little Bit About Me...

After graduating with a dual degree, I taught in Texas for 27 years in the fields of English, Geography, Health/PE, History, and Math. I have presented multiple times on the state level in math. After moving to Pensacola, I have tauht two years in the Florida K-12 sytem, presenting in Tallahassee in an area social studies conference, and three years in the community and junior college system. Recent tutoring includes math up to college Algebra, some physics and chemistry.
I enjoy a Socratic method of questions to teach. Each student has her/his own style of learning and the Socratic allows me to home in on that style and give the student ownership of the larned material. I have ben told I have the parience of job and a "down-to-earth" way of explaination.

A Little Bit About Me...

I began teaching/tutoring while in graduate school. I tutored undergrads in sociology, psychology, and social statistics. I also taught driver's education to high school students while in grad school. After ten years working in law enforcement, I switched to social services and I have been mentoring children in foster care for the past twenty years.
I try to keep the material fresh and I avoid boredom and repetition at all costs. One of my best tools to connect with a young person is through humor. If the student feels relaxed they are more likely to absorb the information. I also use reverse psychology to turn the tables so they actually find themselves teaching me the material. This has been a successful tool with children I have mentored as well as my own children.

I believe in teaching concepts and helping students fully understand ideals rather than students just memorizing facts. This way no matter what the professor asks they will know how to answer questions and ace exams. If they just memorize things, they can get confused and get answers distorted.
