At the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga I received an excellent education where I got my BA in History with a minor in Sociology. There I was taught by excellent professors who instilled in me passions for history, sociology, and intellectual discussion. I also wrote many papers which have given me good grammatical skills. I also gave many speeches and took part in many discussions which have given me good speaking skills. I want to apply this education and experience by working as a tutor for you.
I love teaching and history. I believe that anybody can learn anything. I think if someone has not learned something it is because someone has not taught it to them at all or they have not been taught in the right way. I believe anyone can reach a high education level if they are nurtured by educators who believe in them and are patient.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that every child can learn. My job as a teacher and tutor/mentor is to discover which way will work best with each student. I am very patient and easy going. I believe in a reward system for all students. If students have something to work towards earning, then they are more likely to work harder at achieving their goal. I believe that I can and will make a difference in your child's life.

College students are difficult to work with because they think they know it all. This was a blessing in disguise because it taught me not only to learn different ways to tutor a student, but also to figure out through body language and little signals as to whether or not they were actually comprehending the information. Teaching is not just giving information and hoping they retain it. My teaching style consists of teaching, asking questions to ensure they know or understand the material, and exercising hands-on work and examples to ensure the student can apply what they have learned.
I love the written word and reaching people, so I ultimately chose to major in journalism. My love for teaching and instructing students led me to pursue my minor in education. I have two English-related degrees from the University of Miami, Print Journalism and Creative Writing (Poetry Focus). Since graduating in 2005, I have worked as a teacher in South Korea, Miami Beach, FL, and here in the greater Pensacola area. My classes have ranged from large groups of 30 or more, to private one-on-one sessions with individual students. I have also written for many newspapers and magazines, both domestic and foreign, so I know how to communicate in the most effective and concise way possible.
In the past, my classes have lasted up to three hours at a time. Thus, I have been forced to implement new methodologies in order to not only keep my students focused and interested, but continually learning as well. I incorporate fun activities such as creative writing and music into my lessons while still closely following the curriculum. I believe that education can be bo ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

After finishing my PhD I went to work for Monsanto as an organic analytical chemist. My speciality was the use of mass spectrometry to understand organic chemical reactions and the products and impurities that were formed. While working for Monsanto I also taught College chemistry classes (Organic I and II and the labs). I have over forty publications and forty presentations. I am the author of two books on Organic Analytical Chemistry. I was also honored by being appointed a Science Fellow in Monsanto. I am currently scheduled to teach Organic Chemistry I this summer at the University of West Florida.

I enjoy a Socratic method of questions to teach. Each student has her/his own style of learning and the Socratic allows me to home in on that style and give the student ownership of the larned material. I have ben told I have the parience of job and a "down-to-earth" way of explaination.
After graduating with a dual degree, I taught in Texas for 27 years in the fields of English, Geography, Health/PE, History, and Math. I have presented multiple times on the state level in math. After moving to Pensacola, I have tauht two years in the Florida K-12 sytem, presenting in Tallahassee in an area social studies conference, and three years in the community and junior college system. A Little Bit About Me...

I have been teaching students in classrooms, small group settings and individually for the past seven years. I begin with my students by assessing their strengths and building on them so that students are aware of their successes and are confident to atttempt new material. Positive reinforcment is critical as the most valuable resource in maintaining motivation and rapport with the student. I am certified to teach a variety of subjects and ages and enjoy the individual attention and progress that results from it.
My teaching style is relaxed, but consistent and firm. I expect assignments to be completed and timely, and spend the time with the student instructing and revising. I ask that parents are a part of the experience. I like to communicate with the family frequently so that they are aware of the assigned tasks and they can make me aware of the student's feelings and needs. I ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My finding principle on learning rest on the works of John Dewey, "want for your students, what you would want for your own child". With that said, I am a person of great patience and consdiration. I recognize that each student learns at a different rate and allow students to explore how best they learn, and given them an opportunity to do so. "Wait time" is the key to success and I give my students that time in and out of classroom. Therefore,I use a variety of learning styles based on my students. However, I prefer the contructivist approach to learning, allowing students to critcally think and apply what they are learning while giving them an opportunity to discuss, revist, and share.
For the past 13 years,I have had a great opportunity to shape the lives of many students. The students range from elementary, middle, high and adult learners.I began my journey in the field of educ ... read more

I have really enjoyed working with children. I believe that each child has a special way that he or she learns best. My goal is to find the learning style that best suits the student so that they can better understand the material. I have found that children learn best through being hands-on, it allows them to understand how things work, instead of memorizing the subject matter. My goal is to teach students so that they are better able to grasp the material.
As a graduate from Virginia Tech with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus in Elementary Education, I strive towards achieving academic excellence. I have learned various teaching methods to help children better understand the subject matter that is challenging them. I have worked with many Elementary school children in Math, English, and Science. I also received 3 minors in Elementary English, Elementary Ma ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I try to keep the material fresh and I avoid boredom and repetition at all costs. One of my best tools to connect with a young person is through humor. If the student feels relaxed they are more likely to absorb the information. I also use reverse psychology to turn the tables so they actually find themselves teaching me the material. This has been a successful tool with children I have mentored as well as my own children.
I began teaching/tutoring while in graduate school. I tutored undergrads in sociology, psychology, and social statistics. I also taught driver's education to high school students while in grad school. After ten years working in law enforcement, I switched to social services and I have been mentoring children in foster care for the past twenty years.

A Little Bit About Me...

While a child is working with me, they are always working. I use class time efficiently. I get work done but in a fun manner. I like my students to learn hands on rather than listen to me lecture. It is my philosophy that learning should be fun as well as worthwhile. I do not like to assign busy work. If I assign something, it has a significant purpose. I am a very active teacher who is constantly circulating around the room. I believe in working together to learn. During many activities, I have my students work in small groups or with a partner. I also spend one-on-one time working with my students. Having a structurized learning environment allows me to work one-on-one with my students.
I have logged over 125 hours in a classroom. I worked with third graders during FCAT prep time. I have also spent over 30 hours working with ESOL students on vocabulary, phonics, and math. Current ... read more
