I believe in a multi-sensory approach to learning. All children learn in their own way. My job as a teacher is to provide instruction in a way the child will learn best, whether that is through movement, audio, manipulative or visual cues. I understand that all children learn at their own pace and I am patient. Learning should also be relevant to a student's life. If the students understands how algebra, reading or music will help them in life, they are more persistent in their education. Finally, learning should be fun. Games allow children to master material without tedious repetition and allow students to make mistakes in a non-judgmental arena. I rely on motivational strategies to encourage positive student behaviors by being positive myself and through the following strategies. When possible I allow student choice for what the student wants to work on. A student can finish an assignment in what order makes sense to him as long as he finishes. Or he can break up how much of each assignment he wants to do. I also use flexibility in my teaching methods. I have experience working with student who do not tend to learn very well from traditional teaching methods of mostly verbal or written directions. I teach by breaking up the steps of what is expected and by using manipulatives, small white boards, or graphic organizers.

I have always had a passion for teaching students who face challenges in their lives. My focus is on the student and his lifelong education above test scores. I know that all children can learn and work hard to connect with each of my students and to individualize their educational experience.
During college, I worked as a home-school Spanish, Language Arts and History teacher for students ages seven through fourteen.
