After doing a study abroad in Japan for a year I was enticed to go back and teach English there. Adjusting to the culture both professionally and personally has been an invaluable experience, and I have discovered the great impact I can make as a teacher coming from another country. In addition to carrying out lessons, I have taken on the role of increasing the awareness of diversity among our Japanese student body, faculty, as well as community. I have done this by organizing cooking classes within the community and for the students, I have helped set up cultural festivals and putting together a pen pal exchange with a Junior High School in Georgia. Teaching in Japan has been a rewarding experience. Now, that I have returned back to the United States I do hope to become a teacher of Japanese and share my exprience abroad. Teaching is my passion.
