My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : I use a multisensory approach espoused by the Orton-Gillingham approach to reading instruction. Sight, sound, and neurological pathways to develop reading skills are utilized.

I have been a special needs teacher (k-8 moderate disabilities) for seven years, and an Orton-Gillingham instructor for eight years. Prior to my certifications I worked as a volunteer in Boston, Weymouth, and Quincy schools. I earned a Bachelor's in Literature and history in 1993, and am confident about my ability to work with all types of students in all areas of academics. I am a teacher in a substantially separate classroom for children with emotional disabilities. I also work with autistic children each summer in a social skills program. My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : As a dyslexic student myself, I have intimate knowledge of the possible difficulties with learning a new language.

During the last two years of my undergraduate career I worked as an Arabic and Economics tutor in the Academic Resource Center at Tufts University. With respect to Arabic, I worked with Beginner and Intermediate level students - extensively using Al-Kitaab. Being dyslexic, I have an intimate knowledge of the difficulties that dyslexic students face when learning a new language, especially with an abjad like Arabic. I also have considerable "teaching" experience due to my time working as a personal trainer.

I really love teaching and finding different ways of using analogies and similarities to explain difficult concepts.
