Individualized learning/teaching for optimal comprehension

I take a hands on material approach to learning/teaching. I feel that young students learn best when they can physically learn, such as through blocks/puzzles/interactive learning devices and other similar approaches. I try to let the student use their hands as much as I can to aid in their learning process. For older students such as my high school students or their college counterparts I use more direct audial teaching and visual teaching styles. Every person learns differently, so I cater my teaching style to each individual learner.

It's imperative to listen and understand a students challenges. Reviewing their previous work and giving a current test is a good indicator of the situation. A Little Bit About Me...

Since I have the opportunity to work one-on-one with students on a daily basis I try to tailor my teaching style to each student. When students are more visual I try to use photos or stories to explain concepts. However, when students learn better by reading I allow them to do so, and discuss the reading after they have had time to absorb the information. I feel like I have to adjust to each student's individual learning style when trying to teach.
I am currently working towards my Masters Degree in School Counseling and work as an intern at McCaskey High School. In addition to counseling I am interested in tutoring students, as I believe with a solid education anything is possible. I enjoy working with younger generations. I believe stimulating intelligence and creativity in younger people sometimes requires thinking outside the box.
