A Little Bit About Me...

I have been teaching English and History education for three years. I have experience on the 7th, 8th 9th and 10th grade levels. For the last three years my high school English courses have been centered on ACT prep. for the ACT/MME students take their junior year. My eighth grade curriculum focuses on strengthening testing scores, reading comprehension and writing ability (formal and creative). I also have taught Shakespeare and core minored in Shakespearean Lit while earning my English Degree. My experience with history education has been focused in geography, culture, western civilization, American history, European history and African American/African histories. I have taught the summer school credit recovery classes in my school district for three years and have also home schooled and tutored for seven years. I love teaching children and working with children's choirs. I had some very fine education classes at Aquinas. I'm very intuitive with children. While you must objectively assess the childs level, you must also be intuitive. The teacher has to tap into the innate knowledge and then approach the method of teaching in the way that child can hear you. I am 47 and a mother of an 11 yr. old. I am patient and kind with children, but overall, what comes through is my whimsical, comical, spontaneous nature. Children take to it because I'm also intelligent as opposed to "clownish". I'm also fairly firm. They have to practice and I know how to motivate them for that. I have high standards for children.
