A Little Bit About Me...

I have been very successful in academics throughout my education. I was valedictorian of my high school, and I received the top honors in English, French, and Accounting. I also maintained a 4.0 average throughout my college education.
I love working with children of all ages and abilities and helping them with academics. I don't believe I have a specific teaching style. I know that I have to be flexible and creative with each student. Everyone learns differently, and I feel it is my obligation to find what works for each child. A Little Bit About Me...

My goal in teaching is to help students understand how the scientific process affects them on a personal level. I try to connect science and mathematics to the world around them by helping them to understand science in the context of other disciplines, including art and politics. Furthermore, I draw on my experience in environmental and pharmaceutical laboratories to increase interest in the coursework.
I am currently a mid-career scientist who is looking to transition into the teaching profession. I have tutored high school and college students for several years in chemistry, algebra, physics, and geometry. I have a BS in Chemistry and have taken additional coursework in chemistry and education. I have extensive experience as a chemist working in the laboratory, and have several published research articles in the field.

I believe in an interactive learning environment where I am constantly asking students for their inputs and working through problems with them. This way, they become confident in their abilities to solve difficult problems and provoke critical thinking.
I am currently a graduate student in petroleum engineering. As an undergrad I worked as a mentor for a freshman in my major, helping him cope with school and advising him of the courses he needs to take. I also provide tutoring when needed. In high school I was part of a program called PEPP where high school students provided tutoring to middle school students. I was also involved in a program developed by my school's Honor Society where we tutor our peers in math and science courses. Additionally, I was a summer camp counselor for three summers and I was responsible for coordinating various activities for the children each week.

As an undergraduate at Slippery Rock University, I was approached by my adviser and chair-person in Physics to tutor their physics classes. I accepted their offer and within the two years of tutoring physics I enjoyed helping fellow students learn and understand the concepts of physics. Also, while helping others I could use the knowledge I have learned in previous classes and gain a better understanding of the field of physics. I am currently in the 3-2 Physics/Engineering program between Penn State and Slippery Rock studying Electrical Engineering. I have recently completed the first 3 years at Slippery Rock and in the fall will be attending Penn State University. I excelled in my studies in the Navy's nuclear power program as a machinist mate and engineering laboratory technician. I subsequently obtained a BS degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Tennessee and graduated Summa Cum Laude.
