Everyone absorbs knowledge differently so it is important to cater to each student's particular needs. I am a very hands-on learner and I feel that is the best way to be taught, especially outside of a classroom setting. By getting the body involved in the learning process, the mind is kept stimulated.
I have helped tutor since I was a freshman in high school. I began working with kindergarteners through third grade students on reading and writing. I find teaching very rewarding and uplifting. I love the field of microbiology and it shines through my teaching. When you work with a student and you can actually see the light bulb go off in their head- wow! I like to try and find a bit of fun within the subject and use it to help a troubled student actually enjoy what they are learning. For older students, sometimes an upfront no-nonsence approach is best. It really depends on the learner, but I have yet to find a student I couldn't help.

I am a visual learner, and so my first approach to teaching is using visual aids. I usually draw, use diagrams, or try to paint a mental picture for my students of what I'm trying to teach them. I am excellent at explaining complex terms so any layperson can understand them. I have only worked with teenage/young 20s people, so have less experience with a younger crowd.
