After high school, I recognized in myself a desire to work with elementary- and high school-aged children. I have always been at the top of my classes and was heading for an engineering school before I discovered a love for helping kids. I do not have any teaching experience but I spent many summers working with these age groups at camp and enjoy interacting with them. I also easily understand most high school subjects and enjoy helping students find the answers they are looking for. I have very good communications skills from long use in college and post-graduate studies.
My teaching style would be to find the student's primary learning style and converting the information he or she needs into a format that fits that learning style. I have taught 6-12th grade English for three years. While teaching in Detroit I was the lead teacher heading the tutoring program for MEAP preparation. I have also prepared North Carolina students for ACT and SATs.
I have been told that my classroom does not need a teacher's desk. This is probably due to my high energy, fact paced teaching style. I love using music and technology to get the students interested. I also like to relate English to their lives and show them how they need it. Yes you may walk past my classroom and hear rap music but, that is strictly to show the students how tools of education are used in their everyday lives.

I have one year of Master's work from the University of Indianapolis, but have not earned an MA yet. I write every day and have excellent editing skills, from structural editing to copyediting. I feel if that you really want to learn a subject, that you should try teaching it. I am very friendly and laid back. I try to instill humor and life experiences with my teachings to help the children relate to me or the materials. I love the look of child when the wheels are turning in thier head. I believe that all children have a chance for higher education.
Even though I graduated with a degree in Business Adminstration I hav always enjoys tutoring. I have been tutoring my younger neices and nephews just because I enjoy so.
