A Little Bit About Me...

While teaching high school students and adults I have helped many struggling learners. One of my main goals in all interactions with students I strive to build their confidence. I like to be a person my students can trust who they also understand has high expectations for them. My classroom management is built around responsibility and accountability, and humor.
I graduated with a BS in history in 1996. After nearly seven years working for a large communications corporation I returned to college to get my teaching credentials. I completed a years student teaching and have taught middle school and high school at a local private school. A Little Bit About Me...

As a teacher, I believe my greatest success comes, not when I set goals for my students and push them towards MY goals, but when I simply facilitate my students pursuit of his/her own personal goals. In my first lesson, I always ask my student what he/she wants to accomplish and work together with them to set short and long term goals that will allow them to pursue learning they way THEY want to. I believe that practice should be enjoyable! I always make sure to use whatever music my student enjoys listening to as a means to teach the foundational skills that are required when playing any form of music. I am patient and encouraging, and I love jamming and having fun with my students as an alternative means of teaching.

Patients is a amazing thing to have when trying to teach. Many students learn at a different pace and I feel that finding that pace for every student is important. If you try to cram or learn something to quickly it only become heartache and bad grades.
In College I would form groups to try and study for upcoming test or exams. Doing this it really helped me to learn what I was studying and how other people learn as well.
