Success with confidence is my goal.

I have raised a mentally disabled child and assisted in her education. I have home-schooled three children for brief periods to assess their abilities when the schools graded them lower than their abilities. I discovered one is a genius (MENSA material) with a writing problem, another has a photographic mind, the third could speed read naturally. I spent time building their confidence that they had lost in the classroom. They were caught up to their current grade at the time and advanced 2 of them ahead a year in one year.
Will depend on what works well with the child. I relate to children and parents quite well. If I'm not a good fit and find I'm not helping, I will inform you.

I believe that in order to help a student you must first be able to connect with him/her. That could mean understanding a student’s background, researching the latest video games or playing softball after class. For example, several of the girls I worked with at the JEI Learning Center, spoke very little English. Often they got frustrated and just sort of shut down -- stopped responding. At first I tried to have them draw pictures but when that didn't work, I asked them to show me something from home. They folded cranes and strawberries out of the paper that I gave them.
