After graduating with a degree in Chemistry Education I went off to teach. Six years of professional teaching experience later there are few teaching challenges that I have come up against and not found a working solution to. Native tribes learning math and science, migrant children studying Earth Science, an adult looking for help with some chemistry problems, or an Expeditionary Learning student looking to tackle real world problems; whatever your background or needs I can help. I also have experience teaching college level laboratories, and have a deep passion for helping students grasp the ideas behind chemistry, physics and biology.
I have taught straight skills based lessons, created thematic units that take you across the globe and brought students out into the world to explore problems and challenges like professionals. You tell me how you learn best and I ... read more

I prefer using activities to introduce new concepts and to veryfy, validate, and or, proof the information that we collect from a lesson. I am patient and I listen to students very well before I make judgements. I believe that if all students are accomodated in ways that fit their learning styles/preferences such as audio, visual, or practical, all students will succed.
I started by tutoring introduction to chemistry- college level at the University of Texas - El Paso where I attended. This was a part time student job that made me consider teaching. I then tutored chemistry, physics, and mathematics at a nearby high school. This was the preparation for the state exam (Texas) called TAKS. This introduced me to the high school level and I liked it. I went ahead and worked with the school district for one more semester before I was assigned a school for my internship/student teaching. ... read more

My style of teaching includes visual explanation (white board or chalk board), oral discussion, and hands-on manipulation when ever possible. I try to use as many teaching styles as possible as not all students learn via the same means. My style is also fexible based on the student I am instructing (age or handicaps). I believe the best way to teach science is to make it a fun and inquisitive experience.
I hold a BS and MS in Biology. I started to tutor college student while an undergraduate at Mesa State College.I was awarded the GK-12 Fellowship for two years while at the University of Northern Colorado. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that in order to help a student you must first be able to connect with him/her. That could mean understanding a student’s background, researching the latest video games or playing softball after class. For example, several of the girls I worked with at the JEI Learning Center, spoke very little English. Often they got frustrated and just sort of shut down -- stopped responding. At first I tried to have them draw pictures but when that didn't work, I asked them to show me something from home. They folded cranes and strawberries out of the paper that I gave them. Though the exercise didn't help them understand verb tense, it did help build trust between us. After that, when they felt insecure or confused, I was less intimidating.

I love helping others learn and get through tough subjects. I loved homework all throughout school and would love a chance to be able to help others with theirs. I am very patient and want them to figure things out for themselves with my help. I will not simply tell them the answers.
I graduated high school in the International Baccalaureate program with a 4.5 gpa and 30 college credits. I then went on to the University of Colorado starting out as a sophomore. I graduated 3 years later with a degree in Integrative Physiology. I have an extensive background in science and math. While at CU I was able to tutor children through a program called Reading Buddies where I would meet every week with them every week and read to them in English. Most of the children were mostly Spanish speaking and I would teach them English. Also throughout college I would meet and help others through vario ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I taught middle school and high school Language and Literature for two years at a private school. During that time I also tutored in the subjects of history, math, and science. I am currently working on my Masters degree in Education and have had refresher courses in the areas of study outside of my initial degree. I love working with students and have taken courses specifically in test prep.
I am an active teacher. I want students to understand the subject in the context of their own lives as opposed to just learning definitions. If they can realate the information to an actual happening, they are more likely to remember. In terms of test preparation, aside from learning the information it is important to work on test-taking skills (relaxation, focus, etc.). Being prepared for such large tests is more than just knowing, it is recalling under pressure. I work with all of th ... read more

I focus on the individual first - her style of learning, what makes her mind tick, how she responds to different methods of teaching. I believe that people are treated fairly by being treated individually. I also believe that people do not care how much you know until they know how much you care. I strive to set an example of genuine care and concern for the learner.
During the last five years I have taught others how to use social media, viral marketing, search engine optimization and social media marketing more effectively. I have been recognized by peers as a leader in the emerging space of social knowledge, which embraces a holistic approach to the social interactions an organization has internally and with customers and partners.

More About This Tutor...

I love helping people. I believe that no one is stupid just some people are better in some areas than other people. I enjoy helping people learn because I love seeing the "light bulb click on above their head" when they finally grasp a concept. I try to simplify the subject (or put it in terms the student will grasp) so the student will understand it, thus my teaching method depends on how the student learns.
I worked as a tutor all through college at Iowa State University. I tutored Math (up through Trig), general and organic chemistry, and statistics 101. These were the main classes I taught, but I also did Spanish 1, ecology, and food science/nutrition. I also tutored some high school students in all subjects but mostly math and science.

All throughout my educational career I have learned best through observation. I typically like to solve one problem for the student, allow them to observe, and then work through another problem with them. I am very patient and believe the students all have the capabilities to do well in whatever the subject field, and the tutor is merely there to guide them through. I believe that by allowing them to observe and then slowly letting the student do more and more of the work, it teaches confidence and the value of persistence. Ultimately, I believe that the tutor helps the student to realize their own potential and abilities.

A Little Bit About Me...

In the past,I've taught ESL, Health-care Occupations & Opportunities, both MRI/CT Applications. I also worked for AOL as an on-line teacher/tutor/mentor in their Academic Assistance Center.I hold two cleared teaching credentials one for Vocational Ed.and the other for Adult Ed. These qualify me to teach GED,ESL and any health-care related class. Currently,I'm working as a substitute teacher in Weld County, a grandparent mentor in Larimer County, as well as a part-time instructor at ELTC teaching courses in Medical Terminology and Phlebotomy.
I like the students to learn how to learn. While I will guide them, test them and occasionally point them toward appropriate reference materials, I do not do the work for them....that's their job and the only way they will develop the appropriate learning skills, self-confidence and a thirst for knowledge.

I love teaching all children. I know with patients and repetition and restatements all children can achieve all knowledge. The joy of teaching is watching the light come on when the person is able to understand and use what has been taught. Learning happens best when the student is in an uplifting and encouraging environment Which I provide.
I've tutored college chemistry, physiology and Biochemistry for the past year. I have not tutored math for college students, but I have taught my children their math skills and worked with their classmates.

A Little Bit About Me...

With seven and one half years of experience as a home school teacher of multiple grades, I not only possess the experience but the skills necessary to teach several different grade levels. Organization skills, lesson planning skills, time management, creativity, self-motivation, and most importantly a passion for teaching in a personable way are included among my qualifications as a teacher. Eight years of volunteering in public school settings has afforded me the opportunity to reach many children at their individual level. I thoroughly enjoy children, their creativity, and their inquiring minds. I relish the opportunity to enrich their learning experience with positive and inventive means.
As a teacher of multiple grades, I prefer a unit study approach, allowing each child to learn according to his own learning style. Prescribing to a system entitled the 4Mat SystemTM, ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching style varies with the subject. For math, I derive how to arrive at the answer without memorizing a process. Once the student has grasped a concept, I provide examples of varying 'difficulty' to show how to use the concept (the student should be able to apply it regardless of the problem’s complexity). With respect to science, visuals are key. Biology can be taught using models/diagrams representing various systems. Chemistry, though, requires a more hands-on approach. Teachers should guide students to the answers, allowing students to learn the most by creating their own diagrams/models. Every student learns differently, so it is necessary to discover how each student learns. Consequently, I tweak my style to suit his/her needs.
Since my sophomore year of high school, I have been helping my peers in subjects related to science and math. I helped the biology teachers cre ... read more

A subdiscipline of Biology is cellular biology which examines the basic building block of all life, the cell. Looking for help? Select a tutor today. Cell theory states that the cell is the fundamental unit of life, and that all living things are composed of one or more cells or the secreted products of those cells (e.g. shells). All cells arise from other cells through cell division. In multicellular organisms, every cell in the organism's body derives ultimately from a single cell in a fertilized egg. The cell is also considered to be the basic unit in many pathological processes. Need help? Select a tutor now.
