Over the last nine years I have pushed myself to succeed in academics. In 2010 I graduated with my masters degree in biology. During this time, I gained a strong understanding in many areas of science and math. I have experience writing research papers, laboratory reports, abstracts, grants, and oral and poster presentations. I have mentored students of all ages in science and statistics. In order for students to retain what they learn, I beleive that academics should be interesting and applicable to real life. I also understand that not all students learn alike. I graduated with two bachelor degrees(in English Literature and in Theater Arts). I had planned to continue my graduate studies to obtain my Oregon Teacher's Certificate. Due to legislation, there was a radically decreased need for teachers. I decided after my children were grown to return to school to obtain a Masters' degree. I have been a substitute teacher in Oregon for tutoring/detention while a teacher was on medical leave, and was a teacher's aide in California. I was also the team's scribe and grammatist while in graduate school. The other memebers of the team would submit their parts of the project and I was in charge of making sure everything was properly edited and grammatically precise. My professional experience includes teaching remedial reading, private tutoring of elementary level students, volunteering as an adult literacy tutor, and teaching English as a second language. I also home schooled my three children, teaching each to read when they could not learn in school. My children are all now in college, the eldest studying for his Master's at Boston University. I believe I can teach anyone of any age to read and write effectively. As a highly intuitive and flexible instructor who recognizes that we all learn in different ways, I adjust my methodology to the individual student.
