A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated 10th in a high school class of 900. I have a BA in Dance and am currently taking pre physical therapy course work. I teach and train dancers, both in class and one on one. I also teach yoga. When I teach I also am teaching the history of the form, vocabulary, and the anatomy behind it.
I understand that everyone learns differently. I generally prefer a more hands on approach. I attended a Montessori middle school and found it most effective. However, the goal is find what works best for the student.

I am a “hands-on” type of teacher who likes to get a lot of senses involved in order to enhance student learning. I generally do some initial direct instruction while explaining a new concept, and then I reinforce and assess understanding by doing group projects or activities. As a Junior in college I made the decision to become a teacher. The decision was based on the observation that a majority of teachers are over worked and don't have the time to provide the individual attention some students require. I performed my student teaching at a small school called Central Heights. I taught Physical Education- grades K-8, Physical Education-Freshman Boys, and 3rd Grade-all subjects. I also performed in-class reading requirements in a 2nd Grade classroom. As a college graduate, I started my teaching career in a catholic elementary school. I taught second grade for a year and first grade for two years. It was truely rewarding to see students become fluent readers. I relocated and took a position as a special education assosciate. I worked with four special education teachers. I worked with both groups of students and individuals on their IEP progression. After that I spent 13 years as a fourth grade teacher. I taught all subject areas. I like to do research on problems i can not resolve and i try to solve them within a reasonable amount of time. There are different ways of going about solving a problem. There are chat rooms on chatzilla, google, netbeans.org and tutorials which guide one to the solution. I use the combination of all. I also carry my laptop around where ever possible.
