My comments on tutoring Literature : Literature includes all of the wonderful genres of literature. Students need to be exposed to the best of them in order to appreciate them and analyze them.

I believe that all students can learn to read and write with an approach individualized for each learner regardless of the age.
For the past three years, I have been teaching Writing at Austin Community College. Prior to that I taught teachers as an online facilitator for PBS. I tend to be really flexible and try to adapt my teaching style to the learning style of the student. For students who tend to be more tactile, I might have them handle apples if a math problem references apples. If a student is working on a writing assignment, I will offer suggestions (such as marking spelling/grammar/punction mistakes) and help them learn how to correct the errors so they won't continue to make the same errors in the future.

A Little Bit About Me...

For three years, I have been a writing consultant for students at Rice University who took classes in rhetoric & composition. Some students have been ESL (English as a Second Language). I have tutored at least 25 students total (about 5 per semester), and so I have had experience with tutoring students with a variety of needs.
I recognize that each meeting is unique, and I have a great amount of patience and empathy. I am calm and open, and I want to do what I can for my students to feel at ease in discussing their writing.
