Genetics is one of my top subjects! I received my Masters in Molecular and Cellular Biology. Taught two sections of an Introductory Biology Laboratory and was a Teaching Assistant in Cellular Biology. I am currently obtaining another Masters in Genetic Counseling.

I have taught two sections of an introductory biology laboratory (Bio181) at the University of Arizona in 2011. Each section is three hours long and I prepare the lectures and weekly quizzes. I also grade lab reports, computer assignments, lab projects and hold office hours for two hours each week. In addition, I attend a three-hour organizational weekly meeting with other instructors and the course director (Bruce Patterson). I have also been a teaching assistant for Cell Biology (MCB410). A Little Bit About Me...

Science is similar to math where it is important to practice problems. I mostly tutor Organic Chemistry, in which I prefer to help individuals work out extra practice problems (or those assigned by the teacher) to practice concepts. I have a similar approach in the other subjects I tutor. It is best in science to work out hard problems outside of class because then it reviews all concepts needed to answer these problems on a test. My students always do much better after a tutor session with me because of this. It is also a little more exciting than simply summarizing a teacher's lecture.

I have always felt that tutoring should offer a much more laid-back approach at getting concepts across to students. This is a chance to learn material in an environment that doesn't bear the pressures and stresses of the classroom and achieving a certain grade. Also as opposed to a classroom, I feel that the student should have the floor. This is their time to ask questions and talk through problems. When doing problems, I usually like to ask questions that gradually lead up to the answer and establish the concepts to get to the solution.
