My comments on tutoring Political Science : Experienced to teach Middle School, High School

First off I approach learning with a degree of understanding for the student, I have found not all students learn at the same pace and have the same strengths and weakness. I like to build the strengths and bring up the weakness. A student must want to learn and to take ownership with his or her educational career no matter what the degree is in. I like to think, I can bring to table the confidence the student needs to make a difference in the way they learn. Thus at the end of our tutoring sessions these skills learned can carry over to other subjects the students pursuance of a higher education.
Currently I have a BA in History/Education from St. Leo University and a Masters in Educational Technology (Online Learning) from American Intercontinental University; my specialty lies in American, European and World History as well as how to use and manage online distance learning. I believe that an instructor’s primary role is to create an environment that encourages a real desire to learn by presenting the subject matter in a way that is interesting to the student and by striving to make it make it relevant to their lives. It is my role as an instructor to take abstract concepts and breathe life into them and make them real to the student. I think that it is important to understand and be constantly aware that different people learn in different ways. Because of this, I feel that it is important that an instructor uses a wide range of teaching methods in order to give each student the best opportunity to learn and understand the material.

As a life long learner, the parent of two school age children, and a business professional, I continue to be intrigued and encouraged by the willingness of students to learn. As an adult student earning a bachelors and masters degree, I gained a passion for education as I was not the typical college student. Rather, I was a very typical high school student, and later a part time college student, who was not prepared for college. My passion is to bring out the best learner any student can be, plain and simple. Through my work as a school board member and Junior Achievement volunteer classroom teacher, I have expanded my passion for education.
As indicated previously, I believe all children can learn. More importantly, parents and teachers can learn a great deal from their children, specifically by listening and recognizing what motivates, excites, and draws the child in. I am e ... read more

As a college senior, I have accumulated countless hours towards tutoring and mentoring those in need. Whether it's Pre-K, Elementary, Junior High, High School and College students, I spend a great part of my life not just accomplishing goals, but taking the time to extend a hand and bringing those once behind me to the forefront. I have grown to learn that the right amount of disciplne and nurturing go further than a full dose of either. The subjects I mostly excel in are mathematics, psychology, English, reading, and the Arts. I feel that the well-rounded education that I have received makes me versatile in the educational system as a multi-threat to the decline in graduation rates.
I find great joy in watching a child progress in their education. All children are capable of learning at their own pace, and through repetition. Your child will find success and ease in their academic ... read more

My teaching style is different with each child. Some need more encouragement that others, more supervision, while others do better with an overview explanation followed by "hand off" approach, allowing their creative minds to think of the solution. I like to use practical applications wherever possible. One time, I was working with an 11 year old on fractions. With her parent's permission, I asked her to my home to help me make chocolate chip cookies. I deliberately did not use the "easy" measuring spoons or cups - I used the ones that forced her to figure out how many of a certain fraction would equal one whole. She did very well - and we enjoyed some wonderful cookies.

I have two bachelors degrees, however, I believe it is my experience teaching children that has helped me develop a good sense on how to approaching teaching scenarios. I have years of experience teaching children in academics, music, and dramatic arts, as well as coaching basketball and teaching golf at the professional level.
Each child is different. I always try to notice and acknowledge what benefits each student, as I think this applies to all forms of teaching from academics to athletics. Getting on their level is what ultimately benefits the child from the get go and gains their interest. If I'm interested, then the child is interested. I do my best to make sure the child is setting their goals and doing their best to achieve them in the way and style for which they are best suited.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a hispanic woman, I have always loved challenges. Recently I have juggled work and motherhood. Being a mother of three has given me an introspective insight to children. These skills have helped me become an effective instructor. During the last six years I have tutored my daughter Anabella in English and math.
My greatest gift as a teacher is finding a child's strength and reinforcing it in all areas of academia. I am a leader as well as an instructor. Children perceive my character and follow through their tasks. I believe in inspiring a child as well as educating him/her. As an instructor who teaches by example, I believe that whichever learning skills the children need, they will acquire. First, I find their best attribute in the subject and then I teach them how to embelish this skill in order to mute their small deficiencies. My goal is to educate and inspire thro ... read more
