Versatile Hands-on Tutor for all Age ranges

I prefer hands on teaching, but I like to remain flexible to the individuals learning style. Depending on the topics covered, we read, write, and do hands-on activities to keep the brain stimulated. Sometimes if applicable, and with parental consent, we would do art projects and maybe watch an educational film (that the parent has approved of course). For sciences and social studies I really like the idea of field trips, but everything will be permitted by the parental figures first. These field trips usually include going to parks and observing natural habitats, or even visiting the local museums. We can usually negotiate a small group trip which makes the costs slim to none to have these extra curricular activities.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe in the Democratic approach to Educating the young. I start the year by asking the students what they would like to learn that year and we record this on a large sheet of paper. Students feel happy to know their wishes are so considered and then at the end of the year we review the list and they see that they have covered everything they wanted to learn and much more. I am seriously concerned with the self-esteem of each children and work to elevate this so that the children will be able to grow and achieve the most that they can while in my class. I love children and I love teaching.

Given the right atmosphere, I honestly believe anyone can learn. Unfortunately, many individuals are given labels, especially regarding their learning capacity, and once that belief system is in place, the expectations are often lowered and self-esteem suffers. When I was working as a secretary I knew I wanted to further my education. I returned to school and completed my bachelor of science in education. As a classroom teacher I realized the many problems my students had to deal with. This prompted my to complete my master in school counseling. I have been preparing and conducting adult coursework for a variety of computer - based applications and software for 15 or more years. The courses were done in large lecture environments (30 or more at a time) and also small or individuals sessions, and remote (phone and web-ex) deliveries. I am experienced in assessing group attitude and individual needs and am told that I am very adept at putting my "students" at ease, both through delivery style and in customizing and breaking down the materials for the particular person or group. I am a mother of 2 grown children and one young grandchild. When my children were in elementary school I volunteered at least 1/2 day each week in their classrooms - helping as needed.
