Certified Teacher wanting to help you!

Just as everyone has their own learning style, teachers have their own teaching style. I see my style as more hands on. When I create lesson plans, I like to think outside the box and find ways that motivate students in connection to their interests.
July 2011 I graduated from University of West Georgia in Carrollton with a B.S. in Middle Grades Education. I began substituting for the Heard County School System in August 2011. When I was in middle and high school, I served as a peer tutor. I guess you can say that I have always had a desire to teach.

Reluctant & Struggling Readers can become Good Readers!

I worked for 12 years as a Special Education teacher in the public school system, teaching students with ADD, learning disabilities, autism, Aspergers, emotional and behavior disorders, and mild intellectual disabilities in a resource room and inclusion setting. I am able to quickly make significant connections with the students, building the good rapport that is essential to achieving a good working relationship. I especially enjoy working with reluctant and struggling readers, and nothing makes me happier than to see them overcome the obstacles that have kept them from success.

Reading is one of my top subjects! I am very proficient in Reading and currently work at a county school on the middle grades level and have worked with elementary students for 5 years prior to moving to middle school where I teach a reading and decoding group Monday-Friday. I also have a certificate in Reading and Decoding as well as a Bachelors degree.

As a Paraprofessional-Educator, I enjoy working with children in the areas of reading. They come to me struggling and in need of more assistance that I feel I can provide. I enjoy decoding and comprehension for basic skill understanding. I have worked with children mentoring and tutoring them for the last 8 years.
In college, I strived to do my very best. Like many others I had to write papers on different topics and grammar and comprehension plays a big part in writing a good paper. So, I took the opportunity while I was earning my degree, not to just get the degree, but to make sure I was doing the best I could so I could teach others what I had learned. I earned a BS in Human Services and I am currently working on a Masters degree. I conduct a reading group during the school year everyday for 1-8 students a day.

I look forward to providing academic service with a smile

My passion for teaching comes from a desire to learn and teach about new experiences. As a graduate from Strayer University, I am a living testimony that hard work and dedication to learn pays off. For six years working as a tutor and teaching have been the most rewarding jobs I had. I feel I am making a difference in the lives of the students I teach, as I observe them gaining more knowledge and watching their grades increase. The subjects I specialize tutoring in are English, ESL/ESOL, Reading, Writing, and Marine Biology. While attending Clayton State University, I was known for having great writing and reading skills by students who were in my study groups at the beginning of the term. Many times, they would ask me to review their paper and correct errors found in their paper, so I decided to work in the learning support center in my junior year of college.
