I love to teach!

I have 8 year of professional experience in public practice, corporate accounting, and consulting. I have done everything from external and compliance audits to advisory and tax engagements. I have worked with a wide variety of clients operating in numerous different industries throughout the US, Canada, and overseas.
I am a firm believer in relating education to the real world. This philosophy transcends into my teaching style. I make it a mission to ensure my students understand what they're learning rather than simply memorizing it to pass a test. I want my students to not only learn the subject matter but develop a fundamental understanding of what it takes to succeed in school, college, and the real world. As a recent grad, there are so many lessons I have learned throughout my academic and early professional career that I wished someone had taught me. I will do my best to ... read more

My comments on tutoring Chess : I love to play chess.

Laid back, approachable with a sense of humor.
I received my B.A. in humanities with a minor in Spanish from Buffalo State College in 2009. I studied English, Philosophy and Spanish mostly. I have a lot of experience in writing, critical analysis of literature and basic Spanish. I also hold a TESOL certification from Oxford Seminars. A TESOL certification is an international certification which certifies you to teach English as a second or other language. I have over a year in experience teaching ESL both here in the United States and in South America. I believe I have a good understanding of the technicalities of the English Language and would be ideal for a student struggling with grammar and writing.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored students both with and without learning disabilities. In my 15 years as a teacher in elementary and high school, and as a tutor, I have covered math through algebra and geometry, biology, geography/history, chemistry and physics. I am capable of tutoring college level courses in math and science, too. I believe each person is capable of learning, and that a report card can be improved by learning 'how to learn'. I use manipulatives, white boards, games, and music to tap into those areas of the brain that best respond to learning the material. Tutoring time should be a time for children/adults to anticipate with joy, not fear. Bringing out your academic best is my number one goal for you and/or your child.
I have been a teacher and tutor for over 15 years, specifically in private schools. The first student I tutored (as an elementary student) has graduated from ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I would say that the greatest personal attribute that the Lord has given me when it comes to teaching is patience. I allow the student the time that it takes them in order for them to "get it" without pressuring them. I also like to make the material as simple as possible by teaching in a manner where I like to emphasize understanding as opposed to just being able to do it. And typically I find the best way to offer enlightenment to the student is to take whatever concept it is that I am trying to convey to them and draw an analogy to something basic that they do understand to help bridge the gap to the new concept (the same thing that the Lord Jesus Christ did - John 3:12).
I have been tutoring and teaching since I entered college. I have helped multiple friends of mine through difficult classes that they needed for their degree. I have held many study groups for difficult up ... read more

I gained my first permanent employment as a tutor five years ago, in the beginning of my sophomore year, in the Canisius College Tutoring Center and held this position for three years until graduating in 2008. In my senior year I gained employment as a tutor/mentor for several government-funded high school tutor/mentor programs including GEAR UP through Canisius and Upward Bound through D’Youville. Finally, I was able to capitalize on my experience tutoring by landing my current position as educational coordinator for a 21st Century Program at the Father Belle Community Center. As educational coordinator, I tutor, direct other tutors, and arrange for the provision of life skills courses.

I love trying to help children gain knowledge. I believe anyone is capable of learning something new no matter how old they are and that patience and the use of deductive knowledge are they key's to having someone develop their knowledge. My method of teaching will evoke these attributes as well as reptition so that not only will your child know the material I am tutoring by the time that I am done, but it will also become routine to them. My main goal will be to teach them to know how to reason and analyse themselves while guideing them to make the right choices on their academic work.
As a UB graduate, I was very driven to learn the most I could in the areas of humanities and social sciences. I have earned two bachelor degrees, BA in History and BA in Political Science. With history, I wrote many essays that required me to decipher large amounts of kryptic writing aging back from ... read more

More About This Tutor...

As a mechanical engineering graduate with 3 years of practical experience in the field, I am constantly curious of the world around me and take great delight in sharing and imparting that knowledge in others. The degree itself grounds me firmly in the math and science worlds - everything from basic skill sets in geometry and HS science to advanced level calculus and physics. Growing up with an English/ESL teacher for a mother and participating in various speaking competitions gives me a good background in English and language arts, both oral and written. I have tutored both as a volunteer and as a paid employee for various offices on the Rochester Institute of Technology campus as well as several programs in New Mexico, this along with growing up with a teacher gives me a good background in teaching skills and tactics.
I tend to work well with individuals and small groups, indepen ... read more

As a literacy volunteer I was awakened to a deep desire to achieve my degree in a career in the helping profession. This profession opened doors for a career change in education. I embraced the challenges of a teacher/professor for students ranging from kindergarten to senior citizens, both in the class room setting and one-on-one tutoring in the home settings and community programs. Teaching continues to be the common thread that binds my life experiences with the core person I continue to grow into.
I love working with people of all ages and from a verity of cultures in an educational setting. I firmly believe that every person can learn but that each person has a dominate and secondary learning style of their own. In order to enhance learning for the student, I enjoy the challenge of developing and implementing lesson plans to match the students learning style. My teaching ... read more
