I would say that my teaching style is very interactive. Anyone can give instructions but I love feedback from a one on one situation as well as a group environment. I base alot of my instruction on analogies; when a person can relate an experience or another word to a term being tought, their understanding is broadened and 99% of the time embedded in the longterm memory. That to me is not only developing the ability to draw on a built up knowledge base, but also broadens ones ability to convey what has been learned.
I have always wanted to teach. When I was a child I would round up the kids in my neighborhood and make them do lessons that I created. I do remember they did not like that. I went to college and earned a BS in Biology always knowing that I would eventually teach the sciences. I was an excellent student and have always found pride in myself on my ability to communi ... read more

I have been a substitute teacher for the past two years covering all grade levels from pre-k three up to senior year in high school. I am a Master's Degree candidate in Elementary Education at Wilmington University. I enjoy students at every level and am amazed at what a difference a year makes in their development. Previously, I worked as a copywriter and I spent a lot of years writing and editing. I really enjoy the one-on-one or small group approach to teaching, which is why tutoring is so appealing to me.
I like to incorporate a sense of humor in my teaching - I believe when children can relax they are much more open to learning. I am also sensitive to children's different learning styles whether they are visual, auditory or kinesthetic, and tailor my approach accordingly. No two sessions are ever the same! Some of the students were visual learners, while others needed more tactile experiences. Other students benefited from auditory learning. As a tutor, it is my responsibility to evaluate each student and determine what methods will work best with that individual.

I have always enjoyed tutoring students. I would like to be able to give something back to the community and those in need of my services. I am very patient and would enjoy the challenges that tutoring brings. I would use clarity, knowledge, enthusiasm, authority, and have a powerful presentation to captivate the student and thereby facilitate learning. I would be proactive with each individual student in my classroom. As a teacher I'd promote individual thought and reasoning abilities. Students could then become more self-sufficient and independent as a result. By promoting challenging ideas to help the students develop and create their own opinions and ideas. I'd create a positive classroom environment to facilitate the student’s effective learning. I'd enjoy helping other adults or students achieve their educational goals.
