I worked as a paralegal, parttime, for a lawfirm for awhile, then decided to take the Bar Exam in Florida. I took and passed the Florida Bar Exam in 2007. I use humor to bring the subject matter to life, and I help the student come to her/his own understanding through discussion of the course material, encouraging her/him to take an active role in learning. I am accustomed to working with students who believe that history is boring and/or challenging. A Little Bit About Me...

I am generally flexible, seeking to find what works best for a particular student. My wife and I once hosted a French teenager with the understanding that I would teach him a series of English lessons during his stay. It quickly became apparent that his language skills far exceeded the pre-planned lessons, so I instead developed new lessons on the fly. I try to make sure my students thoroughly understand the central concepts of a subject by showing them how it works and why it matters. After they have that grasp, I try to move on to less important but more entertaining areas. This method helps the student to care about a subject, and want to continue to learn after our relationship ends.

I tutored during my junior and senior years in North Carolina and I've also done private tutoring in Gainesville. In addition, I coached 4-12 year olds how to swim. If I can teach 4 year olds who are screaming and kicking how to swim I can teach someone math or ecnomoics.
I really enjoy teaching all ages. From my background in coaching young children how to swim I've become well adjusted to dealing with difficult situatioins in a learning environment.
