I strongly support the belief that all children are capable of learning if given sufficient opportunity. As a classroom teacher often facing as many as 37 students at one time, it was difficult to provide the appropriate learning environment for many of these children's needs. Through small group tutoring, however, the right learning environment can be created if the tutor fosters a positive relationship with the student. I went back to college to pursue a career in education. While in college I tutored basic math skills to college students and worked with middle school students under a grant program called GEAR UP.
