A Little Bit About Me...

One of the first graduates of a dual degree program from Lesley College(www.lesley.edu),I received a BS/MEd in Early Childhood Education specializing in Early Intervention in 1999. Beginning in June of 1999, I raised my three children full-time. During that time, I worked part-time as a Therapeutic Mentor for PSC of Maine(www.provcorp.com). PSC is a behavioral health agency that serves at-risk school-aged children and their families. Soon after arriving in NC in 2008, I obtained my Birth-K teaching lisence and, in 2009, began teaching full-time for the More-at-Four Pre-K program(www.darecountyschoolsonline). I think it is important to understand that everyone can learn, however it is just a matter of how long it takes. Kids learn at different paces. They may need to be shown a different way to learn. For example, I believe that children learn to read by understanding the book,through meaning. It's important to discuss what is happening in the book. I have a guided reading lesson plan that tells me exactly what I need to work on with that student. Is the student looking at the pictures to help him/her with a word? etc.. I am very patient and kind. I love working with kids and seeing their faces light up when they have achieved certain goals.
