A Little Bit About Me...

When I substitute for a teacher, I want to see a lesson plan. I do not want to be the classroom babysitter. If there is no plan for the day I involve the students in making one. I'm currently working on obtaining my teaching certificate, to go along with my bachelors degree in Social Science. Hopefully, I will be able to go on to receive my Masters in Education. I have been able to tutor students in reading, sentence structure, English and American history.
I love teaching and interacting with today's young kids. They fascinate me. Every child has different learning systems and sometimes it takes several tries to reach that special spot that opens the child's eyes to what excites them about learning. The thrill that I feel when that point is found and theirs, (And my, excitement,)grows. There is no feeling in the world like that!

I am not overbearing. I am laid back, but at the same time, I make sure that the student learns what he/she needs to learn. I am very patient. I try to respect the student and not make learning seem like a chore. Building a foundation of learning skills, even during a short tudoring session can really change a student's approach in all of their classes.
I have taken education classes at Northern Kentucky University. At one point, I was considering on being a Art Teacher. I didn't finish with that path, but I did gain much experience with children and knowledge during that time in working with students. I have worked and studied special needs children as well. I still consider going back for a Master's at some point in education. I think this job would be beneficial in my goals, and for my students, and a great learning experience for us both.

As a Purdue graduate, I was the recipient of the highest level of instruction in math and science. As an undergraduate I was named on the Dean’s list six times and was inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society. I have earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering. In order to be granted this degree I was required to gain a great understanding in many areas of math and science. In addition, I have been on the cutting edge of computer science from the first hand held calculators. I can program in FORTRAN, Assembly, Basic, Pascal, and C languages, on a variety of platforms. I gave private tutoring lessons at the University Language Center to adults and their families as well as students preparing for the Graduate Proficiency Test (GPT) at the University of Minnesota. I was committing 2 to 3 hours a week of ESL, math and science tutoring junior high students from immigrant family background at Abraham Lincoln High School.
