I graduated from the University of Iowa in 1989. My degree is in Elementary Education with an emphasis in reading. I taught in the same school district for 20 years where I gained experience teaching first, second, third and sixth grade. I am currently employed as the Elementary Student Advisor with the school district that my previous school district recently merged with. My daily duties include teaching guidance classes, advising individual students, working with At-Risk students on homework, and being a liason for parents and teachers. I love my job! While I earned my bachelor's degree in communication from Loyola, I also worked as an Academic coach for high school students. I spent a year tutoring students for an academic competition that tested all skill areas including, writing, math, history and science. I spent the summer of 2006 working closely with people with disabilities. I perfected my teaching skills through hands-on learning/teaching techniques. I believe in setting goals and working to ensure they are accomplished. In my opinion, learning should never feel like a boring chore. I always believed that all the children are smart and can learn difficult things. For them to do that all they need is a good teacher who can develop their interest in the subject, which will ultimately result in their success. I was successful in doing that with my brother and my cousin and today they both work in IT companies and Software engineers.
