I am a highly-experienced speaker and tutor of German with 4.5 years of tutoring experience. As a teenager, I attended the annual Statewide German Competition in San Antonio, TX, competing in various fields such as sight-reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation. I scored in the 90th percentile on the National Exam for three consecutive years; in 2011, I received the highest score in the state of Texas. In 2010, I was able to travel to Schwaebisch Hall, Germany, for a six-month study abroad program, where I lived with a German family and attended school to achieve an immersive experience. My students show marked improvement in their abilities with German. I am projected to receive my BA in German in May 2016. I specialize in translation, conversation, and grammar.

I beleive that patience and kindness are a key factor of working with students. As students are attempting to master content that is difficult, the teacher should demonstrate encouragement and patience. I also believe students learn in different manners. When a question is asked, I am not going to simply just tell the student the answer. I would want them to think it out and try and figure it out for themselves. I would however guide them in the right direction and even ask them other questions they may know in order for them to figure out the intial problem. I feel that these types of interactions are a more effective way of learning. Also, writing things down helps tremedously because not only are you thinking it, but you're seeing it and reading it as well. I am a very easy person to get along with, and I am also very encouraging. I enjoy helping others whether it's in an academic environment or not.

A Little Bit About Me...

I received my BS degree with the intent of gaining a MA in teaching. While I was obtaining my MA, I performed as a substitute teacher in several school districts. I had access to 2 long-term teaching positions. The first was for high school special education in history and the second was for 8th grade language arts. I did teach 1 full year as an intervention specialist for a junior high.
The first thing that I like to do as a teacher is tell my students why I chose my profession. I think a little insight as to who I am, lets my students know how passionate I am about my job. All students do not learn in the same ways, nor do they learn at the same paces. It is my job to build upon my students' strengths, and make them believe that they can succeed.
