Geography is one of my top subjects! I have a great interest in world geography and have travelled to many areas in the U.S. Still adding to my knowledge of geography!

Hi! My name is Lauren Cotman. I am a middle school Spanish teacher in Chesterfield County. I have been studying Spanish since I was in the 6th grade and went on to become the President of the Spanish National Honors Society while I was in High School. While in High School, I developed a love for the language and all of the different cultures of the Spanish speaking world. I went on to major in Spanish at Bridgewater College and I was very active with the Latino population on campus and in the community. I went on to further my knowledge by studying abroad in Cuernavaca, Mexico and in Barcelona, Spain. A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching to me is a vocation and not just a job. I enjoy helping children achieve their peek potential in the subject matter at hand. My teaching experience is mostly in private school settings and I taught public school for a year. I am currently waiting to be certified in Spanish in Virginia and will be taking the courses necessary to become a certified teacher in the near future. I truly believe in learning by doing. Being shown the answer never helps anyone. You must go through the process of doing to be confident in your abilities. I try to make the student feel as comfortable as possible with making mistakes. That's the whole point of studying, to improve. Education has always been one of my greatest facinations. I achieved a BA in English grammars, a MLA in creative writing, and fifteen credits towards a PhD in literature and literary criticism. I discovered the writing center at my undergraduate university and became a tutor immediately. I found that I was in a position to learn just as much at the students I tutored. Over the past twelve years, I have continued that facination with learning in voluntary tutoring sessions.
