Learning's only effective if it's fun.

I have a goofy, hands-on style. I try to make it fun. I am very strict, however, when it comes to grammar, respect, and completing proposed tasks. Obviously I have different styles for adults and children. My lessons are always custom designed with the client in mind and age-appropriate. I have an arsenal of materials and activities which I constantly draw from. I aim for a balance between games of all sorts and drills/assessments. I have to be very flexible and creative while teaching, and I enjoy it very much.

I love to work with children of any age. I have been volunteering for over 15 years helping wherever and whenever I can to help make the lives of children more enriched. I have two boys of my own (age 10 and 14) and have been successful in helping them achieve the best they can. I have been teaching kids as a substitute for many years and went back to school in my middle 30's to become a teacher. Unfortunately the availability of teaching positions in my area has prevented me from full time employment but I've kept myself busy subbing and working with young adults and those with disabilities further their educational needs.

A Little Bit About Me...

I tutored inner city youth through a program at D'Youville College in Buffalo, NY. I helped many International Graduate Students improve their English and writing skills. I worked one on one with these students to help edit thesis, statement of purpose, and essays. I have also worked with adult students who want to reduce their accents. I do this by teaching stress accents and basic English vowel sounds. I spent one year in Harbin,Chinaa teaching English to native Chinese(Mandarin students) They had a very basic knowledge of English. I taught culture, English slang and proper usage. These students went on to graduate and enter the working world with a better grasp of the real English language.
