I've done some tutoring both officially and unofficially during the years, editing and proofreading friends' papers (for many of whom English was not a first language), as well as tutoring Russian. My educational experience, however, is vast. I completed the IB program in high school (with SL French, Math Studies and Biology and HL English, History and Psychology), majored in Psychology, History and Russian Studies at CU, and obtained a double Master's in Russian, Central and East European Studies at the University of Glasgow and European Studies at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland. These degrees emphasized Political Science, History and Sociology. I've studied French, Russian, Polish and German.
I try to bring information, facts and ideas into a unified whole, so that rather than being a matter of simple memorization, subjects can be internalized, understood and learne ... read more

My comments on tutoring Government : Almost all of my college electives were taken in Government and Politics, I was one class short of receiving a minor, and I received a grade of A/A- in all Political Science courses. I took the AP Government and Politics class in high school and received a 5 on the test, and in college I have taken Comparative Politics, State Government, American Congress, and Political Psychology.

I have succeeded as a Pre-Med student and psychology major while playing for the University of Colorado D1 women’s volleyball team and thus developed excellent study skills. I have taken and done well on the MCAT and I am applying to medical school in the summer of 2013. I have spent time tutoring my younger brother and many of my teammates and friends in biology, general chemistry, writing/editing, and all psychology fields.

Tutor with 13 years experience

I'm an environmental engineer who has been tutoring for the last 13 years. I enjoy working with children and excell at working with children who might be struggling with comprehension or who have learning disabilities. I have experience working with children who are ESL or ELL. I have worked with elementary, secondary and high school students.
Make learning fun and everyone wins! Not all children absorb material the same way. I try to explore different ways of presenting material and working through concepts to relate the material to something that can be understood.

In 1975 I had been teaching tennis for the City of Boulder Parks and Recreation Department for a year and elected to attend a teaching clinic at Coto de Caza California conducted by the Vic Braden Tennis College. Since then I worked for the City of Boulder as a tennis instructor for 7 more years and I coached tennis to individual tennis players, mostly promising junior players, for an additional 4 years. After a short period of retirement from tennis, I took a job with the Bureau of Prisons in Englewood, Colorado, as a tutor in their Education Department. In that capacity I tutored adult inmates to achieve their 8th grade equivalency and I convinced several to go beyond that level to reach their GED. Working with inmates was a very rewarding experience. I also taught for Flatirons Country Club for a season in 1993, and for Devil's Thumb Tennis Club the following year.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style revolves around the specific learning needs of students because each person not only learns differently but has specific strengths and weakness. As teachers it is our job to meet the needs of all learners. I do not believe in presently material in one way, or one way all the time.
I am a graduate of both the University of Colorado and Adams State College. I hold a Master's degree in Secondary Education as well as a Initial Teacher's license. I have experience as a volunteer tutor in social studies and math, a paid tutor in reading, a student teacher, and as a substitute for the last year and a half. I also have experience as a mentor to young people through the YMCA.

I have been helping students for several years, primarily in the areas of math, accounting and other business topics. I also have experience with helping people use their computers more effectively, especially with regard to Microsoft products.
I practice a collaborative style, one where I team with the student to achieve one or more goals. I push the student to seek the answers, helping them find the resources that are most useful. I enjoy all age levels, but trend toward middle, upper, and college levels.

A Little Bit About Me...

Ever since working my first teaching internship as a junior in high school, I have gained a passion for teaching and helping others. After earning my B.A. in Psychology from Connecticut College, I worked for one school year as a teacher and tutor at a public school in upstate NY. Most of the students I worked with either had a learning disability or were absent from school due to suspension or health condition. After finding my niche working with students with cognitive disabilities, i gained my M.S.Ed in Rehabilitation Counseling. Although the majority of my tutoring experience has been with students aged 12-16 years, I have worked as a high school counselor and disability coordinator at New York University and Columbia University, respectively.
As both a nationally certified rehabilitation counselor and a former teacher, I have a unique perspective with regard to the tutoring pr ... read more

I really enjoy teaching. There's two things in particular I find especially amazing: The first is working with a student and hear them say, "Oh, that's what it's all about! I get it now." Seeing that sudden "click" when a difficult subject is suddenly clear is absolutely golden. The second is being able see the improvement they've made. In order to see this improvement, I work patiently and strive to always encourage my students through every step of the learning process. My teaching style tends to be energetic and enthusiastic; if the teacher isn't excited about the topic, the student won't be, either. Every child can reach their potential given the right environment.
As a student at the University of Colorado at Boulder, I've witnessed students struggling to understand concepts and began tutoring in order to help them. In addition to the courses I've taken for my environmental ... read more

I love working with kids and strive to identify, support and encourage each individual's gifts, strengths, and abilities, while also assisting them with his or her areas of challenge. I am patient, respectful and believe that children and youth respond best to positive reinforcement. My goal is to help your child experience academic success and achieve his or her own potential.
I have been through a teaching credential program for elementary education and chose not to teach in a classroom environment because I prefer one-on-one and small group interaction. I've also earned a bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts because I personally enjoy and value a broad education. My master's degree in counseling reflects my concern for people, my ability to listen and respond to individual needs. I've also been a Teacher's Aide at the Elementary school level and a Substitute teacher at the Ele ... read more

First, I would review with the student the kinds of learning he or she had had success with and adjust the following to the student's learning style. For "Writing Research Papers" I would start with an excellent published paper and then I would review the student's work with explanation. For "U. S. Government" I would incorporate the skill of outlining and review the student's outlines until the important material was included and learned For "Statistics" there is nothing like doing problems. I would start with an explanation of the chapter's subject matter and work with the student in doing problems and discussing the method and meaning.
While a doctoral student in finance, I assisted Professor David Rush in teaching Basic Finance to an auditorium of undergraduates. I had two parts to perform. I maintained office hours to meet with students who had questions o ... read more

Learning starts with learing about oneself and how you best perform. It is very similar to sports, you start off learning the techniques and then you must learn how you best apply them, and yes it takes practice. I have gathered many tools in my life and they came from all the different activities I have done. One must only keep the eyes open and mind focused to absorb the world around them. I believe that if given the answer the lesson is lost. Sometimes it is frustrating, but training wheels must never be confused with pushing the bike. The 'Ah ha' moment can only be earned not given. All children are different and more they learn about what makes them different, the better prepared they are to know and deal with their strengths and weaknesses.
Although I have no formal teaching experience, we all learn and teach everyday in our lives. I am very intelligent and want to pa ... read more
