It is a great challenge to get the student to think critically and so I focus on what is of interest to the student, while introducing necessary grammatical concepts. As a student I enjoyed most the teachers who facilitated learning. Teachers who lead students on a road of discovery as they learned, who taught me how to think and not what to think. I model my teaching after the same style I enjoyed as a student. Helping a student discover for themselves the material not only educates them but fosters a passion for the subject at hand.
