A Little Bit About Me...

My beliefs are that all children can learn, however, they must learn at their own pace and in their own way. This may mean being extremely patient and empathetic, not sympathetic, to their needs and using their strengths to build confidence while using their weaknesses to set goals. Blooms taxonomy is essential to use for setting standards and assessment of student learning. I apply this to my teaching methods as much as possible along with using hands on experiences to build student interest. I am available evenings and weekends for tutoring. I am very patient and easy going but firm. I hope to provide a comfortable tutoring session in which the student gains confidence in order to succeed in the future!

I have worked with students in all levels of elementary school through teaching as well as during my college year. Specifically I have been in classrooms of pre-k, kindergarten, third grade, fourth grade, and fifth grade. I find the enthusiasm and thinking of students in upper levels very intriguing. As I suffered through my younger years with Attention Deficit Disorder, I feel that it is extremely important to appeal to almost all of the senses when teaching. As for myself, I am definitely a visual learner, so I feel that visual aids are important. I am a big fan of hand outs in full color. You will often find me drawing a picture on the board. I feel it is important to hear it and see it, and if you can, touch it. Another important teaching style I implement, is watching my students and making sure they know how to do it. Going around and walking each student through the process and asking them to do what I did really confirms that the student understands what I have taught them.
