I love teaching, period. I strive for clarity in my presentation. This has allowed me to explain very complex ideas to adults as well as very young children. The mark of a good teacher is comprehension. Never is there a place for anger or impatience in teaching! It is the duty of the instructor to demonstrate why the subject is important and interesting. I was taught to teach by "Socratic Method" which is possibly the best way to teach/tutor. I ask many questions to check the students responsiveness and understanding of key areas of the topics including a reinforcing of the ideas being learned. I cannot count how many students I have had come in frustrated and confused and then quickly answer questions that were simple and built up to understanding harder ideas by the end of a session. And the best award of all is seeing joy and elation that they have a good chance of getting a high grade after learning material. While I am not a teacher by profession, I spent much time in the academic support center at SUNY Cobleskill as a freshman tutoring students in different kinds of math.
