Reading Comprehension is one of my top subjects!

I began teaching in 1976 in Tarboro, NC. My first teaching experience was in the middle school, grade 8. After that year, I taught fourth grade for 6 years. My next assignment was teaching at a junior high school grade 8 Language Arts, and grade 9 Basic English, and Diagnostic and Prescriptive Reading. This was followed by teaching middle school grade 6 for 5 years. After completing my Masters in Reading, I worked with the UNC-Chapel Hill Professional Development School supervising graduate students in Guidance, Psychology, and Education as well as teaching At-Risk readers in grades 1 and 2. Reading Comprehension is one of my top subjects! The goal of reading is understanding written print. I have spent many years as a Reading Specialist working with small groups on their comprehension. Many were having difficulty in their assessments. Whether in K-2 or preparing for benchmark tests in 3-5, I take comprehension one step at a time. I also plan according to students' interests, which always helps understanding the written print!

I graduated with my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from UNC-Wilmington. I taught first and second grades for ten years in the classroom. While teaching, I returned to school to receive my Master's Degree in Reading (k-12) and certification as a Reading Specialist. I worked as a Reading Teacher for five years, focusing on grades first through third. I also served as a K-2 Instructional Coach. Changing The World, One Child AT A Time

I was an assistant teacher to a 3rd grade class at Wilson's Mills Elementary from 2001 until 2003. My duties included assisted the teacher and helping the students in a manner to help them learn at their pace. And I also have an 8 year old son who attends River Dell Elementary. I love when I can help others!

My teaching style is more hands on because that's how I learned fastest when I was in school.
I am going to school to become a teacher in the grades of kindergarten through 5th, I have been a nanny for several people and have enjoyed it completely!
