Carl is currently active in Indianapolis, Indiana as a freelance trombonist and arranger with local jazz artists including The Blue Note Tribute Band, The Clifford Ratliff Big Band, Kapitulo Uno, Orquesta Bravo, Grupo Tumbao and the Naptown Fantasy Swingers. Carl also leads a latin jazz ensemble Con Alma and is co-leader of Trombononymous an Indianapolis based two trombone jazz quintet.
In Michigan, Carl worked as trombonist and chief arranger for two Michigan-based salsa bands, Orquesta Ritmo and Grupo Ayé and also performed with his two trombone jazz quintet, The Slide Element.
