A Little Bit About Me...

As a Mechanical Engineering student I have learned a broad amount of knowledge from physics, math, to technical writing. My math and physic levels are high enough for very complex technical problems. I have spent a large amount of time giving presentations, & writing technical papers. This has honed my grammatical & literary skills. Furthermore, I volunteered as a church representative for 2 yrs, speaking spanish to natives of mexico & teaching them my church's beliefs. This gave me experience in verbal communication & interaction with various types of people with various learning abilities. I also have experience in tutoring. From May 2007 to August 2010, I attended Emporia State University where I worked on a dual-bachelor’s degree program in physics and engineering. In August 2010, I transferred to Kansas State University to complete the program. During my last year at Emporia State University, I worked in the Brighton Laboratory, tutoring students in a variety of math courses ranging from Beginning Algebra to Calculus I. In May 2011, I graduated from Emporia State with a Bachelor of Science in Physics with a minor in Mathematics. As a graduate student at Kansas State University I have learned the value of education. My education in Political Science working towards my BS has given a high degree of competence in math, history, and social sciences. When teaching a math lesson I begin by going over skills already mastered that lead to the lesson at hand. After teaching the new material I then have the student try a similar problem while I watch. If necessary I coach them along, pointing out any problem areas. Then I require the student to try more of the same type of problems until he or she has mastered the new material. It's very important to me that the student understand what he or she is doing and why it works. In other words, I don't just teach them how to do individual problems.
