My comments on tutoring Literature : A solid literary foundation facilitates my 38-year career as a teacher who continues to earn most of his living as a writer.

I advocate a "hands-on" approach that affords students an opportunity to feel as if they are teaching themselves and I am there only to facilitate the process.
I am foremost a writer whose 38-year, award-winning career is rooted in journalism. However, I also have an extensive teaching background. I have taught writing labs at St. Thomas University – Miami, Florida (1987-88), Mississippi State University (1988-89) and Texas A&M University (1989-93); and I currently offer tutoring services to 10th- and 11th-grade foreign exchange students from all over the world. Some of my tutoring involves preparing students to take the college-entrance SAT. I am particularly qualified to do this from a writing perspective, because the College Board contracts me each year to assess the essays students submit as part of their SAT testing. In a similar fashion, Pearson Education, I ... read more

My comments on tutoring Literature : Literature is a broad subject with many niches, so it is easier to just mention the areas I am most proficient, and leave out the ones I am not. I know quite a bit about British Romanticism, of the poets Blake, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Byron, Shelley, Keats, and I know about the cultural and intellectual changes that these poets were concerned with. I also know a lot about modernism, which is the early 20th century movement, involving James Joyce, Virginia Woolf and the poets Eliot, Pound and others. Walt Whitman is a paticular favorite poet of mine, on whom I can elaborate a great deal. Literature of course is so broad that I have a lot of experience in other places, but I am not expert enough in all of those places to feel confortable tutoring them, though those mentioned above, I am okay with.

My name is Eric Fisher Stone and I graduated with B.A. from Texas Christian University in the summer of 2008. I attended graduate school directly after, and acquired 20 graduate hours and the University of Idaho’s MFA in Creative Writing Program where I taught freshmen composition. I currently live in Fort Worth, Texas in the zip code of 76133. My main areas of expertise are creative writing, and poetry. I can also teach fiction writing because I have some experience in that as well, having a fiction publication in Descant, Fort Worth’s Journal of Fiction and Poetry. I maintained, in my English major, a GPA of 3.7. My knowledge of literature overall is pretty solid and it is strongest in British Romanticism and American Transcendentalism (meaning American poets like Whitman and thinkers such as Emerson and Thoreau.) With Shakespeare, the plays I am most knowledgeable in are, “A Midsummer ... read more

Literature is one of my top subjects!

I taught freshman composition at Texas A&M Commerce and Paris Junior College. My primary focus in graduate school was literature. Much of my studies related to children's and adolescent literature. The study of composition and compositional theory made up a secondary focus of my studies. After graduating, I worked in the sales and management fields and assisted students in the community in writing speeches for competition and personal statements for college applications.
I prefer working one on one with students and in group situations I utilize a collaborative learning approach.

I am working toward a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature with a minor in Philosophy. I have achieved very high marks in college board English examinations and I am VERY proficient in all aspects of the English field. I have also played the French horn in band for the past 9 years and I know how to play the trumpet as well. I would feel comfortable teaching a beginner on either of those instruments.

To All Can Learn, If there's a Will there's a Way.

I have previously taught dance lessons, choreographed a select number of routines, and have helped with Resume techniques for job scouting and placement. I have a passion to teach and am undoubtedly sure to be able to teach and tutor anyone. Regardless of the age or skill level, I will adjust the lesson based on your performance at hand. I am fun to learn with and will help you meet above and beyond what you thought was achievable.
My teaching style varies depending on how I see the student picks up and retains material. Repetition, Hands-on activities, speaking, out loud thinking.

Everyone needs help now and again!

I find most children at young ages are visual learners, but I am easily adjustable to many teaching styles to fit the students needs.
I have worked with children ages 5 and up for a few years now. I have 3 siblings all 8 years or more younger than me, and have had lots of experience with children in elementary school. I have tutored middle school students after hours, and have worked with Special Needs children throughout my summers and within my school.

My comments on tutoring Literature : over 6 hrs college coursework completed in different genres of lit as well as a few minor lit awards and continuing self taught student of lit

I would describe my teaching style as dynamic, creative student-centered
I've either taught or tutored in some form or fashion for over 17yrs now. I've had ages 3yrs to 22yrs old covering all manner of subjects and hobbies. One of my most rewarding experience was with an 18 year old special needs 10th grader ready to drop out of school. We met 2-3x a week for 6mths. In that time he raised his GPA from 1.2 to 2.7. He completed his 10th grade year and went on to take and pass the G.E.D. the following year.

My comments on tutoring Literature : American literature is my favorite. As a English teacher I taught world literature (including Greek mythology), American literature, and English literature.

My teaching style is determined by the group that I am teaching. I am always honest and open minded with my students. I always give me the respect and care that they deserve.
My many years of teaching experience at all levels (from elementary to college) has given me the ability and patience to work with students of all ages. Although I prefer older students, I have taught reading, language arts, and writing in elementary school. During my more than 40 years in Greece, I worked with students in ESL (all levels), taught high school and college English, and prepared many Greek students for the TOEFL I have a BA degree in English from the University of North Texas (1962), MA in Reading and English from Miami University (Oxford, Ohio - 1975) and post graduate work from several European and American Universities. I have had all A's through out school including college. I went to school for nursing and Algebra and anything with numbers is my specialty. I enjoy working with others an being a mentor and teaching people. I've tutored many students my age and younger and older than me and i've never had no complaints. Everyone i have helped tutor has had good grades not failed anything after working with me.
I like to ask children or students how do they like to learn? and once they tell me how they like to learn i teach them the way they like to learn so that they remember what they need to know.
